Putting 5,000 spaces in perspective. A parking lot with 5,000 spaces holds roughly as many vehicles as there are residents in a small Japanese town. A top-tier theme park or shopping mall lot is capable of absorbing the entire car population of a small municipality — simultaneously, on a peak holiday weekend.

What didn't make the list. Stadiums, highway service areas (SA/PA), and roadside rest stops (Michi-no-Eki) all fell below the 5,000-space threshold. And Narita, Japan's primary international gateway, ranks only 23rd.
